LOCATION
Situated above Nerja on the Costa del Sol, this luxury villa is
set in a quiet location in the hills with stunning views over the
Mediterranean.
The town and beach are just a 10 minute drive away.
The villa is surrounded by lush gardens with both sunny and shaded
terraces complete with a good sized heated swimming pool. |
Malaga
is the capital of the Costa del Sol. It is a bustling city
with excellent shops, thriving night life and boasts many beautiful
sights. The famous painter. Pablo Picasso, was born in the city
and his house and the museum which is dedicated to him, are amongst
many popular tourist attractions. Narrow streets are crammed with
tapas bars and wine shops which especially come alive at the week-end
with young people going out to enjoy the night life.
|
| Nerja
is now the biggest resort to the east if Malaga and was once a
small fishing village. There are numerous attractions to suit
all ages - the old centre of town retains its original charm and
there are plenty of bars and restaurants. Nerja is probably most
famous for its caves which were discovered in 1959 and, although
visitors are welcome, some parts are still closed to the public
in order to protect and preserve them. It is estimated that they
were inhabited between 20,000 BC and 1,800 BC. |

Barbecue:
There is a barbecue outside but as you can appreciate, care must
be taken at all times because everything in Spain is very dry
and fires can be started easily. |
Telephone:
There is no telephone on the premises but mobiles do seem to have
a good signal. For UK dial 044 and then the area code (but delete
the 0 of the area code) and then the number. |
Smoking:
We do not encourage smoking inside the villa as a courtesy to
fellow occupants. If you do smoke outside, please use the ashtrays
provided for the same reason as taking care with the barbecue! |
EATING
OUT
At the villa you will find a list of our favourite Bars and Restaurants
that we recommend you try. All of them are very good indeed, but
as with most places in the world, you get what you pay for! i.e.
the lower the price the more basic menu and probably smaller portions.
The beach restaurants at Burrianna are also very good but do get
very busy in the peak season. We especially recommend you visit
Ayo's who cooks paella on an open fire. Ayo's claim to fame is
that he discovered the caves at Nerja as a youngster and they
are well worth a visit! On Sunday he also cooks roast pork (cerdo)
with vegetables, a very popular and enjoyable dish. You can keep
going back as many times as you like to have your plate refilled. |
SHOPPING
The Spanish have a very different lifestyle to us both in the
summer and winter months. Don't expect too many shops to be open
before 10 o'clock in the morning and expect them to shut at 2
o'clock in the afternoon. Most will re-open from 5pm & 6pm
and stay open until 9pmor 10pm. There are lots of interesting
shops in town but for most of your every day supplies, we recommend
you use the Supersol Supermarket which is situated near the roundabout
at the bottom of the hill. Just keep going straight on at the
roundabout and you then come to the entrance to the underground
car parking which can get very busy during the morning and evening
periods. However, this shop is usually open for the whole day.
YOU WILL NEED A 1 EURO COIN FOR THE TROLLEY! |
TRANSPORT
We are assuming you have a car as this is essential for travelling
to the villa and exploring the surrounding area. However, if you
are feeling energetic one evening you can walk up the hill to
where you meet the main road and if you stand by the road side
where a bus comes down from Frigliana you can flag him down -
you will need to check the times in town as they do change! The
bus will set you down in the town on the main road and you can
make your way to the Balcon.
Getting back is not quite so easy because you need to pick up
a taxi from the taxi rank, but these are plentiful and cheap.
You need to ask for Camino Viejo de Malaga, the number of the house
is 49a. Sometimes the taxi drivers need to be helped with the
precise position of the house but gesticulation usually does the
trick! |

DIRECTIONS
FROM MALAGA AIRPORT TO EL PRADO
As you leave the airport car park head for Malaga and go straight
on at the first roundabout. After a little way you will see
that there is a flyover. Keep in the left hand lane and go over
the flyover on the main road which goes round in a huge circle
onto the Malaga ring road.
You then need to be following signs to Motril and Almeria. Do
not be tempted to go into the centre of Malaga because this
can be a nightmare! Keep going along the main road and be careful
not to turn off towards Granada but continue on the main A7.
This road follows the coast on for some 40 or 50 kilometres
until such time as you get to the Nerja and Frigiliana turning.
Take the exit slip road and at the roudabout keep in the left
hand lane and turn left towards Frigiliana. Follow this road
straight up the hill and you come to a white wall with Cortijo
San Rafael written on it in red.
You are now getting quite near to the turn off (300-400 metres approx)
so follow the road round to the left and then keep going until
you get to a quite sharp right hand bend in the road. On the
left you will see a dirt track. Turn down this road being careful
to go quite slowly because there is quite a drop down from the road
surface. The road splits in two and you need to take the left
hand fork leaving the post boxes and rubbish enclosure on your
right. The road is extremely bumpy at this point but do not
worry as you are definitely on the right track. Keep going straight
down past quite a few big houses and after a kilometre or so
you come to the point where the road is made up.
You
are now getting near to "El Prado" and if you follow
this road for another 200-300 metres you will come to the house
on the left which is quite clearly named and has 49a on the
gate post. We would recommend that one person then gets out
of the car with the keys and opens the gate to the driveway
and we suggest that you back in because trying to reverse out
can be a little tricky, particularly at night.
The
three keys that you have will open the two front gates and the
front door and the rest of the keys are inside the property.
ALARM
There is a burglar alarm, the controls for which are in the
kitchen next to the fridge. Please do use this when you leave
the property. When you leave, the code is XXXXX and when you
come back in to deactivate the alarm the code is XXXXX. In case
of problems with the alarm wr have a contract with ROJIPER
who can be contacted on 902100919.

DEPARTURE
TO THE AIRPORT
As a rule, the trip to the airport only takes some 45 minutes,
but we usually leave at least 3 hours before the departure time
of the flight to allow for traffic. When you get to Malaga,
assuming you have rented a car through one of the major companies,
you make your way towards the car rental return section and you
need to park up and wait for one of the inspectors to come along.
They will check the car over and give you a piece of paper which
you take back to the relevant car office at the end of the parking
area. However, some companies still just ask you to deposit the
car in the main car park and take the keys back to the desk or,
in some cases, even leave them in the boot. If they want you to
do this, they should tell you when you collect the car. |

DATES
& RATES
Easyjet flys 3 or 4 times a day from Stanstead and other UK
Airports to Malaga, which is a 45 minute drive along the motorway
from Nerja. Car hire is essential but cheap and easy to arrange
and there is ample off street parking for 2 or 3 cars at the
villa.
From
the beginning of April until the end of October, the villa is
let through a holiday company and therefore only last minute
bookings are possible according to availability (7-14 days from
departure date). But the warm Andalucian climate means that
an autumn, winter or spring break brings a welcome respite from
the English rain!
By
letting the house privately, we are able to offer very reasonable
prices which include all services, cleaning, linen and use of
all our facilities and equipment. It is possible to rent the
main part of the property without the self-contained apartment
which keeps the cost down for a smaller party, but if you are
interested in visiting our home then please speak to either
Adrian or Charles so they can describe it in more detail.
The rates are as follows and rentals are from SUNDAY TO SUNDAY:
